Top 11 Facts About Eyelashes

Are you a fan of lashes? Or maybe lash extensions? Women love to emphasize them in different ways and through different makeup looks, as well as eyelash treatments. Keep on reading and figure out some new and fun facts about lashes that you probably didn’t know of.

1. They Grow In Stages

Our lashes will grow in three stages, also known as anagen, catagen, as well as telogen. Anagen is the active growth stage that happens during 2-3 weeks. Catagen is a transitional stage where the follicle closes off. Telogen is a resting stage where your lashes stop growing and they’ve reached their full potential.

2. They Will Fall Out On A Daily

Each eyelash will grow in its own ideal cycle, and you will never be lash-less as time goes on. Most people will lose five lashes in a day. Once it falls out it will take 6-8 weeks for your new lash to grow in, so you have to be patient! All you can do is using a lash serum to speed up this process while taking good care of them

3. All Mammals Have Eyelashes

Did you know that mammals are the only ones who have lashes? Plenty of animals can have thick and full lashes, such as giraffes, horses, as well as cows. You can enjoy their beauty and feel lucky if they are naturally wispy.

4. They Are Used For Protection

Their main purpose is to protect your eyes from external factors. Your lashes will protect you from dust, rain, as well as dirt. The more you blink and the longer your lashes are, the less the chance of you getting something into your eye. They will also help with your overall sight and vision.

5. They Are Made Of Two Things

Did you know that they are made with water (3% only) and 97% of keratin? Keratin is a natural protein that is common for hair, nails, as well as skin. The better the diet (which is protein-based) the prettier and stronger your lashes will appear and look.

6.  They’ve Been Loved In Ancient Egypt As Well

Back in 4000 B.C. people in ancient Egypt would use kohl to darken their eyelashes. The first-ever non-toxic mascara was invented in the 19th century. A mixture of coal and Vaseline will do you wonders as well, and women loved to combine these ingredients ages back.

7. You Have Tiny Mites

Only around 0.2 millimeters long, these are found over our lashes and eyebrows.

8. They Will Change As You Get Older

Your hair will change as you age. Your natural lashes will look different when you’re in your 30s or 60s. You can speed their growth and boost their thickness with high-quality oils and serums.

9. They Are Thick On The Top

You will see that they are long and thick around the top. There are also 200-300 lashes on one eyelid. You will also see that your middle portion is a lot stronger and more durable than the rest.

10. They Can Get Damaged

You can easily damage them if you abuse them too much. Do not use lash curlers or mascara too often. Let your lashes rest, breathe, as well as nourish on their own. Embrace the growth cycle. Take care of them by keeping them clean every day

Did you know you can pull them out of the root? Never break them in half and let them regenerate on their own. Always use light pressure and press up and down to get the curl.

11. They Like Food

Get the needed food and nutrients to speed up their growth. You should eat salmon, fruits, vegetables, as well as some vitamins that will help with the formation of your collagen.

5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GET LASH EXTENSIONS

Long, thick and full eyelashes are desired by many women and often seen on the pages of many beauty magazines. Unfortunately, we are not all genetically blessed with perfect lashes, and although it might seem hard to believe, many models and celebrities also belong in this category. You might wonder “how come these beautiful people seemingly have perfect lashes?”

5 Reasons Why You Should Get Lash Extensions

  1. You will look and feel better, especially now that you can stop envying the models and celebrities in magazines. Eyelash extensions instantly dramatically enhance your eyes. They will look bigger, brighter and more youthful, and the lashes will also bring out the color of your eyes. The compliments will start pouring in, and your confidence will increase. When you look good, you feel good!
  2. You can still do everything you did before. Lavish Lash extensions look natural and are weightless; you will most likely forget that you are wearing them. After the first 48 hours, you can go about your business as normal. You can even swim and shower with the lashes.
  3. You will have time to spare. No more rushing in the morning to put on your makeup and get out the door. You can sleep in a little longer, because Lavish Lash extensions naturally frame and emphasize your eyes, so curling your lashes and applying eye makeup is really not necessary anymore. Also, you don’t have to bother taking off eye makeup once the day is done.
  4. You can save money. Since eyelash extensions look good on their own, you don’t have to buy tubes of mascara to bring out your lashes. The days of layering mascara, and potentially risking smudges and raccoon eyes, are over. You can save the money and get yourself another treat; Lucy’s lashes extensions maybe?
  5. You can easily maintain the look. Initially getting lash extensions can take up to 2 hours, depending on the skill of your lash technician. After this, all you have to do is maintain the look by getting touch-ups, or so-called fills, every 2 to 3 weeks. In addition to being less expensive, fills are less time-consuming; in about 30 minutes, you will leave the salon knowing that your lashes look as fabulous as you feel.

Why Are Long Eyelashes Attractive?

Have you ever thought about why we always desire to have long eyelashes? Why do some famous paintings of women depict that eyelashes are something that enhances the beauty of your face?

Generally,we use eyeliners and mascaras to highlight them. And above all, we are very fond of getting Eyelash Extensions to make those eyelashes look prettier than ever.

So why do we pay so much attention to this tiny little part of our face? Well, here at Wisp lashes, we have helped thousands of women with eyelash extensions and here’s the reason why all of us love those long dark lashes!

They make your eyes look bigger:

  • Whatever shape or colour your eyes maybe, long black eyelashes make them open up, look bigger and brighter.
  • This is a scientifically proven fact that baby-like features such as big eyes induce feelings of love and attraction in other adults.
  • One of the scientific journals based on Social Psychology has also noted this back in the 1980s that baby-like facial features have a strong impact on the other person when commanding honesty, kindness, or affection.

They make you look young:

  • We all know that our eyelashes tend to grow thinner and shorter as we age. So, logically, the longer your eyelashes, the younger you seem to look.
  • But that’s not all. It is found that dark eyelashes highlight the white part of the eyes known as the sclera.
  • The brighter it looks, the younger it makes you look. And if you have ever noticed, you might know that the blink of women is slower than those of men.
  • The soft and fluttering blink of a woman is considered seductive, and if your lashes are long, that just makes it even sexier!

They are extremely catchy:

  • Long lashes definitely look catchier than having sparse eyelashes. Scientifically, eyelashes are required to protect the eyes from dirt in the air. But hey! Who doesn’t want to seek a little attention with the blink of eyes?
  • You can convey a lot of things with those eyes! You can convey to someone that you’d like them to start a conversation. Similarly, you can glare in a way that says, “Stay away from me!” And here’s a little analogy for you to understand: long dark eyelashes are to your eyes, what lipstick is to your lips!
  • The way a lipstick creates a contrast with the surrounding skin; your eyelashes do pretty much the same.

They make you feel confident:

  • Long lashes will boost your confidence. Do you notice how your self-esteem boosts up when you apply your mascara during your makeup?
  • Do you notice the difference in the appearance after getting eyelash extensions or putting on mascara? It makes a big difference, isn’t it?
  • Some women tend to have naturally long lashes while some get Eyelash Extensions or use mascara for the same.
  • However, that doesn’t make any difference. The way it makes you feel confident is all that matters.

These were just some of the reasons why long eyelashes make you look attractive and catch the attention of people. You may be surprised to know that your eyelashes also say a lot about a woman’s fertility, this may seem odd but not totally wrong. The excess shedding of your eyelashes indicates an autoimmune disorder and such disorders have an extremely detrimental effect on your fertility.

The Invention Of Eyelash Extensions

Who Invented Eyelash Extensions?

The history of eyelash extensions is riddled with many unconfirmed stories and myths.

Some say it was Egyptians who first came up with the idea of artificial lashes made from thin strips of gold and silver.

Others claim that false lashes were first used in 1916 by director D.W Griffith to make actress Seena Owen look more alluring in the movie Intolerance.

The most popular story, however, is that of Anna Taylor.

A beauty salon owner from New York, Anna Taylor is credited with being the first person to apply false eyelashes commercially while celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, and Elizabeth Taylor were some of her earliest clients.

Why Were Eyelash Extensions Invented?

The primary reason for the invention of eyelash extensions was to enhance the beauty of eyes and make them stand out.

However, over the years, the function of eyelash extensions has changed and they are now used for various purposes like making the eyes look bigger, fuller, and more defined.

They are also used to add length and thickness to the lashes, as well as to create different looks for special occasions.

Where Did Eyelash Extensions Originate From?

Lash extensions are believed to have first been used in ancient Egypt. It is said that they were used to enhance the beauty of eyes and make them stand out.

Both Egyptian men and women were seeking this novel way to improve their appearance and status.

Were Eyelash Extensions Invented?

Eyelash extensions were invented and patented in 1911 by Anna Taylor. She was a beauty salon owner from New York. Ms. Taylor is credited with being the first person to apply false eyelashes commercially.

The patent description says they were intended “to be used in combination with the natural eyelashes to add length, thickness, and/or fullness thereto.”

What Were False Eyelashes Originally Called?

False eyelashes were originally called “artificial eyelashes”.

4 MISCONCEPTION ABOUT EYELASH EXTENSIONS

You probably have at least one friend who has dramatically told her horror story about her experience with eyelash extensions. If you’ve been holding off on getting extensions because of what you’ve heard, read up. Chances are, you’ve fallen victim to one of many myths about extensions.

MYTH #1 – EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR EYELASHES.

This is the most popular misconception about eyelash extensions, so let’s just get this one out of the way first.

FACT – NO, THEY DO NOT DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL LASHES.

When applied properly, your eyelash extensions will not only look great, but have no effect on your natural lashes. It’s all about using an experienced lash stylist who understands the right way to apply the extensions. If the lashes being applied are too long or too heavy, they may fall out early and take some of your natural lashes with them.

Another common issue? Too much glue. Since extensions are glued to your natural lash, using too much glue on eyelashes can cause your natural lashes to fall out, along with the extensions.

MYTH #2 – THE EYELASH EXTENSION PROCEDURE IS PAINFUL AND UNCOMFORTABLE.

So many beauty processes are so uncomfortable. This one has to be as well, right?

FACT – ACTUALLY, A LOT OF PEOPLE TAKE A NAP.

Talk about multitasking. The process is long—about 1.5 to 2 hours on average—but it doesn’t hurt. Some people take naps or listen to music or podcasts while the lash stylist does their thing.

MYTH #3 – YOU CAN’T WASH YOUR FACE AROUND YOUR EYELASHES.

With the delicacy of the glued lashes, surely water and face cleansers are a no-no while I have extensions.

FACT – WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO WASH YOUR FACE AND KEEP EXTENSIONS CLEAN.

We encourage you to keep your extensions clean. In fact, that will keep your lashes looking fresh and healthy. That being said, you’ll want to be a little more mindful of your products. Find a facial cleanser that’s extension-friendly to ensure best results. And, make sure you’re not using any oil-based cleansers or makeup removers. Lastly, don’t rub too hard!

MYTH #4 – YOU CAN JUST PICK THEM OFF WHEN YOU’RE READY.

Just like fake lashes, I can just peel them off when I’m tired of them, right?

FACT – NOT UNLESS YOU WANT TO DAMAGE YOUR HAIR FOLLICLES.

Lash extensions and fake lashes you can buy at the drugstore are two very different products with very different ways to remove them. Pulling them out yourself could result in damaged hair follicles—and once it’s damaged, hair will no longer grow. So unless you’re willing to permanently lose your natural lashes, visit your stylist to have them SAFELY removed with the appropriate products.

Now that we’ve put your mind at ease, there’s only one thing left to do—book your lash extension appointment at LUCY’S LASHES for great-looking lashes you’ll love!

Must-know facts about eyelash extensions:

1. Eyelash extensions are not “one size fits all”. Everyone’s lashes are different and eyelash extensions should be customized to each individual for the correct length and thickness to suit their look and ensure the health of their natural lashes. Not everyone can or should get super long or super thick eyelash extensions!

2. A full set of eyelash extensions is not all one length. The shape of your lash line tapers – it’s longer in the center and shorter on the outsides and your extensions should be too. Following the design of the natural lashes creates natural-looking extensions!

3. Natural lashes grow to a finite length (different for each person), fall out and are replaced by new growth, just like the hairs on your head. When eyelash extensions are applied and maintained correctly, they will grow out with your natural lash and still be attached to the lash when it sheds.

4. Natural lashes are constantly growing in and falling out at different times so your eyelash extensions will too! There is no set amount of time that eyelash extensions will last because they will shed with the natural lash they are attached to when it grows out and that time varies. Due to growth cycles and different stages, the best estimate is that you will shed 1-5 natural lashes per day – including those with extensions and those without. Frequent re-lashes will replace those that have shed to maintain a full look.

5. You SHOULD be seeing your natural lashes and extensions fall out together. This is normal. If your extensions fall off before the natural lash, the adhesive bond wasn’t strong enough or maintenance instructions were not followed correctly.

How to Prepare for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Eyelash extensions are a popular beauty treatment, but they’re also a commitment. If you want your extensions to look their best and last as long as possible, you need to take some time to prepare for the appointment. Here are eight tips on how to get ready for your appointment.

1. Avoid Caffeine/Stimulants Up To Four Hours Before Your Appointment.

Many of us enjoy starting our mornings with a cup of coffee, but did you know that this habit can actually make your lash appointment less enjoyable? Caffeine and other stimulants can make our lashes flutter, making it harder for the technician to apply the extensions correctly. In addition, it can keep us from relaxing and enjoying the appointment, as we’ll be too focused on staying awake. So next time you’re booked in for lash extensions, make sure to skip the coffee beforehand and enjoy a relaxing cup afterward instead. Your lashes will thank you for it!

2. Arrive With a Clean Face and Clean Eyelashes.

In order to get the most out of your lash extension service, it is important to arrive with clean lashes. Residual oils and makeup will only prevent the adhesive from properly bonding, resulting in poor retention. Your lash stylist should not spend more than a few minutes cleansing and prepping your lashes. This means that less time is spent cleaning and more time is spent applying lash extensions, resulting in a fuller, more flattering look. It is also important to note that facial and brow makeup is perfectly acceptable to wear to your appointment; however, if you must wear eye makeup, it is best to book a morning appointment. This will ensure you have time after your appointment to apply your eye makeup.

3. Avoid Using Oil-Based Products On and Around the Eyes Prior to Your Appointment.

It’s important to avoid using oil-based products around your eyes before the appointment. Oil can cause the adhesive to break down, making it difficult for the lashes to stay in place. It will decrease your retention dramatically, which will result in you needing more frequent fills.

4. Dress Comfortably.

One of the biggest tips we can give you is to dress comfortably for your eyelash appointment. Keep in mind, based on the type of set you booked for, you’ll be spending at least an hour lying down, so it’s important to be comfortable. Comfortable clothing will help you relax and enjoy the time being pampered.

5. Bring Headphones.

As we mentioned previously, you will be laying for at least one hour. Many people enjoy listening to music or podcasts during their eyelash appointments, so they bring their headphones with them. This can help to pass the time and make the experience more enjoyable. However, there are also some practical benefits to wearing headphones during an appointment. Firstly, it can help to cancel out any noise from the salon, making it easier to relax. Secondly, it can help the time go by faster. Lastly, it can be a way of indicating to the technician that you would prefer not to talk during the procedure. This can be helpful if you want to take a nap or simply spend some time in silence.

6. Arrive a Little Early.

Clients are always advised to come in a little early to their eyelash extension appointment. This gives you time to fill out any paperwork and also gives your lash tech a chance to answer any questions you may have. It also means that they can start your treatment on time or sometimes even a bit early, without having to rush.

We know that your time is precious, and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your appointment. So please make sure to arrive a few minutes early, so that your lash tech can give you the best possible service.

What’s great and not so great about eyelash extensions?

What’s great about eyelash extensions?

When applied by a skilled lash artist, extensions can make your eyes look naturally glorious. They look a lot more real than ordinary false eyelashes. That’s because standard false lashes come attached, all in a row, on a foundational strip, which is simply glued to the lash line.

In contrast, eyelash extensions are attached by tweezers, one at a time, to each individual natural lash. Each artificial extension is the same diameter and consistency as the natural lash to which it is bonded. The best extensions trace and enhance your own eye shape. No wonder they look so real.

You’ll save time. You won’t need to bother with mascara if you’re wearing extensions, because they’re doing mascara’s job way better than mascara can. If you want, you can forget eye makeup. And you’ll never have to use an eyelash curler.

All extensions can be customized for any kind of lash look. You pick the length and degree of curl with your stylist. Extensions can last throughout an average growth cycle of natural eyelashes.

What’s not so great about eyelash extensions?

That average eyelash growth cycle lasts about 6 to 8 weeks. Each synthetic lash will be lost, of course, when the natural lash to which it is attached is naturally shed.

Volume lashes require maintenance

To maintain the desired fullness, touch-ups should be done every three weeks or so. “Maintenance” means that a new artificial lash is attached to each natural lash that has emerged since your last visit to a lash bar. (Yes, “lash bar”. That’s what they’re called, despite the dark connotations.)

Eyelash extension care

After you’ve been lashed up, you’re going to need to avoid any sort of moisture, including steam, near your eyes. After the first couple of days, you can shower, but you’ll need to blow dry your extensions, on the cool setting, while you caress them with a special spoolie brush. You may need to sleep on your back.

You can’t rub your eyes when you have eyelash extensions, which means you have to work around the eye area when you’re washing your face.

The ultimate guide to getting longer, fuller lashes

Looking to lash out? The desire for longer, thicker lashes is one that many women (and men) share. Whether your goal is to create a more dramatic look, or just to enhance what you already have, there are plenty of ways to get the results you want. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the ultimate guide to achieve drool-worthy-lashes.

1. Lash care, my friends!
You take care of your hair, and your lashes should be no different!

First off, always keep your skin clean around your eye area, but not overly so. You don’t want to strip away all the natural oils you need for healthy lashes! A gentle lash cleanser and a moisturizing eye cream will do just fine – if you’re looking to invest in an extra lash product, we recommend using castor oil as it is filled with nutrients that help lashes grow.

2. Don’t rub your eyes!

This can cause premature lash loss and even damage the delicate skin around your eyes. Touching your lashes is another no-no. Your fingers are full of germs and oils, the last thing you want to do is transfer these onto your eyes (which will make it easier for bacteria to grow).

3. Be gentle with that curler

Curling your lashes opens them up and makes them look longer. But be sure to be gentle and to use a good quality curler – one that isn’t too tight – to avoid damaging your lashes.

4. Lash extensions baby

If you’re looking for something a little more permanent, consider getting lash extensions. These last anywhere from two to three weeks and are great if your lashes tend to fall out easily or break frequently.

5. A little serum love

Use an eyelash serum! We (of course) love our own “Whit It Into Shape Serum”, as it’s the only product we’ve come across that actually works and without the nasty chemicals (you can get it here). While more of a long-term option, serums are great if you want to maintain your lashes or just see whether lash growth is something that might be effective for you.

6. It’s prime time

Use an eyelash primer! A little trick some women use to make their mascara last longer and look thicker – coat the base of your lashes with a primer before applying your mascara. This will help the mascara stick to your lashes and give you fuller, thicker looking lashes.

AFTERCARE OF EYELASH EXTIONS!

Eyelash extensions aren’t difficult to look after necessarily but there are few aftercare points to be aware of:

You can’t get the extensions wet for 24 hours or be near anything particularly hot

To enable the glue to set properly, you can’t get your eyelash extensions wet, such as having a shower, or be near anything hot, such as opening an oven and letting your face be near hot steam for 24 hours after getting your eyelashes done. It’s not a big deal but something to be aware of.

Brush them with a spoolie

To ensure your eyelashes remain looking wispy, you need to brush them with a spoolie. After you’ve slept, your eyelashes can look a bit wonky, so it’s just a case of fanning them out with the spoolie. The same goes for after you’ve had a shower. You need to be gentle when you do this.

You can’t use oil-based products on your eyelashes

Oil-based products, like cleansing oils, will weaken the eyelash glue and means they will fall out quicker. This means no oil-based products around your eyes to ensure your eyelashes stay on as long as possible. If you love oil-based products for removing eye makeup, this is a point you need to consider. Honestly, this is a drawback for me as I do love oil-based products to remove eye makeup, so I’ve missed this.

Washing your face requires more care

You can’t rub your eyes when you’ve got extensions as this can lead to eyelashes falling out faster. So when you wash your face, you need to be cautious. Also, don’t unnecessarily get your lashes wet as, again, this will just mean your extensions don’t last as long. I’ve got to admit, I do miss rubbing my eyes!
