Must-know facts about eyelash extensions:

1. Eyelash extensions are not “one size fits all”. Everyone’s lashes are different and eyelash extensions should be customized to each individual for the correct length and thickness to suit their look and ensure the health of their natural lashes. Not everyone can or should get super long or super thick eyelash extensions!

2. A full set of eyelash extensions is not all one length. The shape of your lash line tapers – it’s longer in the center and shorter on the outsides and your extensions should be too. Following the design of the natural lashes creates natural-looking extensions!

3. Natural lashes grow to a finite length (different for each person), fall out and are replaced by new growth, just like the hairs on your head. When eyelash extensions are applied and maintained correctly, they will grow out with your natural lash and still be attached to the lash when it sheds.

4. Natural lashes are constantly growing in and falling out at different times so your eyelash extensions will too! There is no set amount of time that eyelash extensions will last because they will shed with the natural lash they are attached to when it grows out and that time varies. Due to growth cycles and different stages, the best estimate is that you will shed 1-5 natural lashes per day – including those with extensions and those without. Frequent re-lashes will replace those that have shed to maintain a full look.

5. You SHOULD be seeing your natural lashes and extensions fall out together. This is normal. If your extensions fall off before the natural lash, the adhesive bond wasn’t strong enough or maintenance instructions were not followed correctly.

How to Prepare for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Eyelash extensions are a popular beauty treatment, but they’re also a commitment. If you want your extensions to look their best and last as long as possible, you need to take some time to prepare for the appointment. Here are eight tips on how to get ready for your appointment.

1. Avoid Caffeine/Stimulants Up To Four Hours Before Your Appointment.

Many of us enjoy starting our mornings with a cup of coffee, but did you know that this habit can actually make your lash appointment less enjoyable? Caffeine and other stimulants can make our lashes flutter, making it harder for the technician to apply the extensions correctly. In addition, it can keep us from relaxing and enjoying the appointment, as we’ll be too focused on staying awake. So next time you’re booked in for lash extensions, make sure to skip the coffee beforehand and enjoy a relaxing cup afterward instead. Your lashes will thank you for it!

2. Arrive With a Clean Face and Clean Eyelashes.

In order to get the most out of your lash extension service, it is important to arrive with clean lashes. Residual oils and makeup will only prevent the adhesive from properly bonding, resulting in poor retention. Your lash stylist should not spend more than a few minutes cleansing and prepping your lashes. This means that less time is spent cleaning and more time is spent applying lash extensions, resulting in a fuller, more flattering look. It is also important to note that facial and brow makeup is perfectly acceptable to wear to your appointment; however, if you must wear eye makeup, it is best to book a morning appointment. This will ensure you have time after your appointment to apply your eye makeup.

3. Avoid Using Oil-Based Products On and Around the Eyes Prior to Your Appointment.

It’s important to avoid using oil-based products around your eyes before the appointment. Oil can cause the adhesive to break down, making it difficult for the lashes to stay in place. It will decrease your retention dramatically, which will result in you needing more frequent fills.

4. Dress Comfortably.

One of the biggest tips we can give you is to dress comfortably for your eyelash appointment. Keep in mind, based on the type of set you booked for, you’ll be spending at least an hour lying down, so it’s important to be comfortable. Comfortable clothing will help you relax and enjoy the time being pampered.

5. Bring Headphones.

As we mentioned previously, you will be laying for at least one hour. Many people enjoy listening to music or podcasts during their eyelash appointments, so they bring their headphones with them. This can help to pass the time and make the experience more enjoyable. However, there are also some practical benefits to wearing headphones during an appointment. Firstly, it can help to cancel out any noise from the salon, making it easier to relax. Secondly, it can help the time go by faster. Lastly, it can be a way of indicating to the technician that you would prefer not to talk during the procedure. This can be helpful if you want to take a nap or simply spend some time in silence.

6. Arrive a Little Early.

Clients are always advised to come in a little early to their eyelash extension appointment. This gives you time to fill out any paperwork and also gives your lash tech a chance to answer any questions you may have. It also means that they can start your treatment on time or sometimes even a bit early, without having to rush.

We know that your time is precious, and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your appointment. So please make sure to arrive a few minutes early, so that your lash tech can give you the best possible service.

What’s great and not so great about eyelash extensions?

What’s great about eyelash extensions?

When applied by a skilled lash artist, extensions can make your eyes look naturally glorious. They look a lot more real than ordinary false eyelashes. That’s because standard false lashes come attached, all in a row, on a foundational strip, which is simply glued to the lash line.

In contrast, eyelash extensions are attached by tweezers, one at a time, to each individual natural lash. Each artificial extension is the same diameter and consistency as the natural lash to which it is bonded. The best extensions trace and enhance your own eye shape. No wonder they look so real.

You’ll save time. You won’t need to bother with mascara if you’re wearing extensions, because they’re doing mascara’s job way better than mascara can. If you want, you can forget eye makeup. And you’ll never have to use an eyelash curler.

All extensions can be customized for any kind of lash look. You pick the length and degree of curl with your stylist. Extensions can last throughout an average growth cycle of natural eyelashes.

What’s not so great about eyelash extensions?

That average eyelash growth cycle lasts about 6 to 8 weeks. Each synthetic lash will be lost, of course, when the natural lash to which it is attached is naturally shed.

Volume lashes require maintenance

To maintain the desired fullness, touch-ups should be done every three weeks or so. “Maintenance” means that a new artificial lash is attached to each natural lash that has emerged since your last visit to a lash bar. (Yes, “lash bar”. That’s what they’re called, despite the dark connotations.)

Eyelash extension care

After you’ve been lashed up, you’re going to need to avoid any sort of moisture, including steam, near your eyes. After the first couple of days, you can shower, but you’ll need to blow dry your extensions, on the cool setting, while you caress them with a special spoolie brush. You may need to sleep on your back.

You can’t rub your eyes when you have eyelash extensions, which means you have to work around the eye area when you’re washing your face.

The ultimate guide to getting longer, fuller lashes

Looking to lash out? The desire for longer, thicker lashes is one that many women (and men) share. Whether your goal is to create a more dramatic look, or just to enhance what you already have, there are plenty of ways to get the results you want. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the ultimate guide to achieve drool-worthy-lashes.

1. Lash care, my friends!
You take care of your hair, and your lashes should be no different!

First off, always keep your skin clean around your eye area, but not overly so. You don’t want to strip away all the natural oils you need for healthy lashes! A gentle lash cleanser and a moisturizing eye cream will do just fine – if you’re looking to invest in an extra lash product, we recommend using castor oil as it is filled with nutrients that help lashes grow.

2. Don’t rub your eyes!

This can cause premature lash loss and even damage the delicate skin around your eyes. Touching your lashes is another no-no. Your fingers are full of germs and oils, the last thing you want to do is transfer these onto your eyes (which will make it easier for bacteria to grow).

3. Be gentle with that curler

Curling your lashes opens them up and makes them look longer. But be sure to be gentle and to use a good quality curler – one that isn’t too tight – to avoid damaging your lashes.

4. Lash extensions baby

If you’re looking for something a little more permanent, consider getting lash extensions. These last anywhere from two to three weeks and are great if your lashes tend to fall out easily or break frequently.

5. A little serum love

Use an eyelash serum! We (of course) love our own “Whit It Into Shape Serum”, as it’s the only product we’ve come across that actually works and without the nasty chemicals (you can get it here). While more of a long-term option, serums are great if you want to maintain your lashes or just see whether lash growth is something that might be effective for you.

6. It’s prime time

Use an eyelash primer! A little trick some women use to make their mascara last longer and look thicker – coat the base of your lashes with a primer before applying your mascara. This will help the mascara stick to your lashes and give you fuller, thicker looking lashes.

AFTERCARE OF EYELASH EXTIONS!

Eyelash extensions aren’t difficult to look after necessarily but there are few aftercare points to be aware of:

You can’t get the extensions wet for 24 hours or be near anything particularly hot

To enable the glue to set properly, you can’t get your eyelash extensions wet, such as having a shower, or be near anything hot, such as opening an oven and letting your face be near hot steam for 24 hours after getting your eyelashes done. It’s not a big deal but something to be aware of.

Brush them with a spoolie

To ensure your eyelashes remain looking wispy, you need to brush them with a spoolie. After you’ve slept, your eyelashes can look a bit wonky, so it’s just a case of fanning them out with the spoolie. The same goes for after you’ve had a shower. You need to be gentle when you do this.

You can’t use oil-based products on your eyelashes

Oil-based products, like cleansing oils, will weaken the eyelash glue and means they will fall out quicker. This means no oil-based products around your eyes to ensure your eyelashes stay on as long as possible. If you love oil-based products for removing eye makeup, this is a point you need to consider. Honestly, this is a drawback for me as I do love oil-based products to remove eye makeup, so I’ve missed this.

Washing your face requires more care

You can’t rub your eyes when you’ve got extensions as this can lead to eyelashes falling out faster. So when you wash your face, you need to be cautious. Also, don’t unnecessarily get your lashes wet as, again, this will just mean your extensions don’t last as long. I’ve got to admit, I do miss rubbing my eyes!

My Experience With Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are the beauty girl hack that saves you minutes in your daily makeup routine and stops you from having to sneak to the bathroom in the morning after an ~adult sleepover~ to re-mascara, so you can bat your lashes and make them fall in love with you all over again.

But what actually happens during an eyelash extensions treatment? Does it hurt? How long do they last? And is it even worth it?

How long did the eyelash extension process take?

The process took around 3.5 hours. It would have been a lot less time if it wasn’t for the fact that my eyes kept watering. I have really sensitive eyes, so they were literally wet, haha. I’m probably a bit of a nightmare client.

The process wasn’t painful, though, the glue was just a bit strong for my eyes. My sister had hers done by Jo with the same hybrid lash style and it took her 2 hours in contrast

Did it hurt?

Absolutely not. There isn’t any prodding or poking or scratching involved in the procedure, but if you open your eyes (even just a little bit) during the treatment, the fumes from the glue can make your eyes burn a little. It’s just a vaguely irritating sting, but it’s super avoidable if you keep your peepers shut.

The fumes crept into my eyeballs when I fell asleep and moved my eyes without realizing. I wasn’t in pain but was just pissed that my eyes weren’t as relaxed as I was during my little snooze.

How long did it take for redness and sensitivity to subside?

About 48 hours for the redness and watering to fully go away.

How long do the extensions last?

At the time this post goes live, I’ve had my extensions for 2 weeks. Quite a few of the eyelashes have fallen out but that’s because I’m not the most careful with my lashes when I brush them with a spoolie and most of the lashes were applied wet, which means the glue didn’t stick as well.

I’d like to point out, though, that only one of my natural lashes has come out. Just one. So for people saying that getting extensions will ruin your natural lashes, I’d like to clarify that’s not been the case for me. It probably would be if you yanked them out, so just be mindful.

Do eyelash extensions ruin your eyelashes?

This is one of the most popular questions/concerns I hear about eyelash extensions, especially for someone who has never done eyelash extensions before.

You want to try eyelash extensions but of course, not at the expense of your natural lashes. So, do eyelash extensions ruin your eyelashes?

No, natural lashes shed every day, and the loss of 3-5 natural lashes a day is normal. Keep in mind that natural lashes will shed with their extension as they are attached! If you experience excessive loss of lashes, then the lash extensions may be to blame. If an inexperienced lash technician applies lashes to more than one natural lash, you may see clumps of lashes shedding, which is so unnecessary. To avoid this, make sure you are visiting a lash professional!

There are also a couple of practices to keep in mind so that your natural lashes stay nice and healthy:

  • Don’t rub or tug at your lash extensions. This can cause stress or damage to the natural lashes below. Plus, the natural oils on your skin will break down the adhesive, meaning your luscious lashes won’t last as long.
  • Research before selecting a lash studio. Before you trust someone to go near your eyes with tweezers, make sure they know what they’re doing. With a skilled lash technician placing each extension, you won’t have to worry about ruining your natural lashes. Need ideas for lash extension? Don’t hesitate to make an appointment with us to get a professional advice.
  • Find the right adhesive. The type of lash glue used can have an impact on the state of natural lashes.

Ultimately, eyelash extensions don’t damage natural lashes when they are applied correctly. They simply extend your natural lashes. Women love eyelash extensions because they give a long, beautiful, and youthful look to their eyes. Eyelash extensions should be done by a professional lash tech if you want to avoid ruining your natural lashes. Come with us to get great eyelash extension and experience the best service ever.
